Nice school to attend if you can borrow money or pay yourself. Housing on campus is 3-4K per semester depending on the building. Tuition is around 8K per semester. Scholarships are available, too. Staff and faculty are polite and helpful, for the most part.

I absolutely loved the tour I did here with my HS JROTC class!!! I was very amazed with all TAMUG had to offer its students, and where I wasn't able to apply here, I am so excited for my younger sister joining as a freshman this year pursuing a marine biology major! I hope she has as much fun here in the next few years as I did on the two hour tour.

By far the best college experience you can get at any maritime academy in the nation. I hated being a cadet at the time, but looking back I only remember the good times. I appreciated that it was still possible to get somewhat of a normal college experience, and that non-license option students make up a majority of the student population. Plus, I think the school has rid itself of most of the toxic maritime faculty, and is well on its way to living up to its potential. I just really hope they get a new ship soon.

This review is based on my first conversation with a campus employee. I will provide additional information after a visit & tour. I just completed an extremely helpful conversation with an employee in the Admissions Dept re tours, majors, name it-it was possibly asked 🤭 Everything was answered thoroughly with extra detail as needed. As a parent scheduling college visits, and passing info along to my Student to make decisions, this is an excellent beginning. My thanks to Steven for his helpfulness.

Skip the Ocean Engineering degree. There is no work. When there is work, its short term project work. This career path in not stable. You are better of earning a degree in civil or structural engineering.

My daughter attends TAMUG. It the perfect community for her. Of course it hasn't been the same since COVID. All her classes have been online. She visits every other week with the student club she directs. I tagged along for a Mommy-daughter mini vacation to Galveston.

Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) is an ocean-oriented branch campus of Texas A&M University offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees that are awarded from Texas A&M Universityin College Station. Students enrolled at Texas A&M University at Galveston, known affectionately as 'Sea Aggies', share the benefits of students attending Texas A&M University (TAMU) campus in College Station. TAMUG is located on Pelican Island, offering benefits for its maritime focused majors. Enrollment at TAMUG increased from 551 in 1987 to more than 2000 students in 2012, with projected growth to 3000 students in the coming years. Students originate from 49 different states and the District of Columbia. Science and engineering majors number 75 percent of the student body; 43 percent are women; about 50 percent reported themselves to have been in the top 20 percent of their high school class. Fifty-seven percent plan to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. degree and about 65 percent receive some type of financial aid. On campus housing is available and may be required for some students. The campus offers volleyball courts, a gym, pool, tennis courts, indoor basketball court, a student center, and many other amenities. Changes and modernizations are happening fast, with recently added residential dorms and a new corps dorm being built for completion early 2016.
